The Pursuit of Happiness In A Profit Driven Society When we tell people that we want to chase our dreams, we are told to stop being ridiculous and be more realistic. It has been drilled into our brains that the ultimate career goal is to be employed, move up in a big name company and make good money, while chasing dreams is something for people who don’t know anything about the real world.
The profitability of STEM and the vanity of the Arts and Humanities As I have observed, nobody questions your choice of study if you answer with a business or a STEM subject when you are asked about your major. Because it makes sense to study those. Because you will supposedly have a future in those fields. Because the government and the industries tell you that that is where the future and the money lies.
Equality is wishful thinking. Only in death we will become equal. The typical path for anyone who wants to get into a higher paying position is usually going to university, graduate and apply for a job in that specific field or in another one. What is your life worth in this society? You can't deny the fact that with money, you have a lot more options, regardless of what it is. With money, most of the times you have an advantage others don't have. It already starts with being able to afford college tuitions or being able to move somewhere else for education. I am really fortunate to have parents who are working hard to support me financially.
First, what I've been up to I actually was not intending to take a break from my blog, but somehow it seems like I did, because the last time I posted was almost a year ago, last April to be exact. I think this is the most inactive I have ever been on my blog.
I've been thinking about what to write for my next blog post. If you have read some of my posts, you probably know that I often write about my feelings and thoughts, which are really personal. I don't really know why I can write about those so openly, but it helps me personally to put it into words.
Experiencing is the key I studied at Furtwangen University for three semesters and I got to experience a lot. I don't regret my time there and I also don't think that it was a waste of time. I got to know some nice people, I learnt quite a few things and of course I still can make use of the experiences I gained there even after leaving that university.
